The Thelma Souper Memorial Contest will not be held in 2016.
This has been the decision of the WARO Executive at its committee meeting in August 2015. This decision was made for several reasons:
The Contest was poorly supported in 2015 and we need a full evaluation of it for the reasons why this happened.
We need time to have the rules of this contest revised and put before an AGM which will not take place until June 2016.
This decision had to be taken now because time was running out for the advertising needed for this event.
We do not at this stage have a co-ordinator for this contest. No volunteers have come forward. The new contest co-ordinator needs to have input for any change of the rules etc.
This contest will take place again in 2017. Hopefully it will be bigger and brighter!!
A position that needs to be filled.
WARO Contest Manager. If the Thelma Souper Memorial Contest is to continue we need a YL who is prepared to take this task on. It is really quite an easy position to fill. All that is needed is someone who would agree on a date for the contest in 2017, help the WARO Executive rewrite the rules, advertise the Contest in Break-In and Infoline, arrange for the WARO callsign multiple to be on the air, set a date for all Logs to be back with the WARO Contest Manager then correlate the Logs with the rules and make sure that the points each Log sheet has is correct. Results are then forwarded to the WARO President who arranges the engraving of the Trophies etc. and the presenting of these at the AGM in June. Can you help?
