RSM - GO TO: Radio Spectrum Management

The RSM is part of MED - Ministry of Economical Development and manages the radio spectrum. A key function of RSM is to issue and register spectrum and radio licences. The main online service offered is SMART an electronic register that allows clients to apply for a radio licence online.

SMART allows clients to:

1. Apply for a New Zealand radio licence
2. Renew an existing licence
3. Pay licence fees online
4. Search the Register of Radio Frequencies
5. Maintain client details

SMART will enable certain external bodies like agency certifiers to interact directly with the online system – a first for radio spectrum management.

Who does this licence apply to?

1. Persons holding a New Zealand General Amateur operators certificate who operate radio transmitting equipment within the amateur radio bands.
2. Persons visiting New Zealand who hold an approved CEPT amateur operator licence.
