The Stolen Equipment Register is operated by me on behalf of NZART, for the benefit all radio amateurs and is only as effective as the rate of reporting thefts. Thefts are an invasion of privacy, traumatic, and antisocial. They can also be seen by some as being an opportunity for upgrading equipment at the expense of the insurance company. Whatever the attitude you take when you are robbed - please report the event to me so that it might be prevented from happening to someone else.
I have compiled a cross-indexed database so that any parameter can give a match or access - and it is possible to give an answer re listing or otherwise over the phone in a similar manner to that given to people purchasing a car - all care and no responsibility though as the list could never be guaranteed as being complete. I would merely be able to state that a particular serial number did or did not appear on the list.
The aim of keeping this register is to make stealing amateur equipment unattractive (or even downright repulsive) to the stealer; to prevent amateurs purchasing stolen equipment and subsequently having it confiscated; and to recover stolen equipment for the rightful owner. The temptation to buy a very cheap rig that has fallen off the back of a truck should be resisted at all times - the next gear stolen could be YOURS!
Please notify me, as soon as possible, of any stolen equipment that is recovered - it can then be withdrawn from the register and will help me measure the success of the scheme.
