Welcome to another SilverStripe newsletter. February has been a very busy month here in New Zealand, with brain expansions at Foo Camp and Webstock, then tragedy with the earthquake in Christchurch. We hope that everyone in our community and their loved ones are all safe and well. We've been watching recovery efforts via social media, and it has really brought home for us how important community really is - whether it's local or spread across computer networks.
SilverStripe Wellington Meetup, February 16 Last week we hosted a meetup in Wellington, which was very sucessful. Thanks to everyone who came along. You can read all about it in our blog post, as well as seeing videos and slides from the following presentations:
* Making a SilverStripe site in no time - Tim Klein
* SilverStripe as a Business Intelligence System- Cam Findlay
* SilverStripe CMS and Sapphire v3.0 Overview - Ingo Schommer, Senior Developer at SilverStripe.
Upcoming SilverStripe CMS meetups around the world:
* London: March 3
* Melbourne: March 18
* Utrect: March 24
* Brisbane: April 1
* Wellington: April 13
You can see, create, and join meetups in other cities on the SilverStripe Meetup page.
We've created a roadmap page on SilverStripe.org so you can follow all the latest developments at a glance.
We want Version 3 development to be totally transparent, with input from the community, so please have your say on our development mailing list.
You ask the questions, we'll answer them We've started a series on our blog answering commonly asked questions, beginning with why SilverStripe CMS uses TinyMCE. These posts are different from help requests in the forums, or discussion on the dev list in that they're designed to offer real insight into the minds of the people who make the big decisions. Let us know what else you'd like to know through twitter, blog comments, or reply to this email.
If your website runs across multiple servers or uses PostgreSQL as its database, Dawn can now support your environment! We're pleased that a wider pool of people using SilverStripe CMS to run critical websites can now enjoy the ease and power of monitoring their websites with Dawn. You can read more about it on the Dawn blog.
Deloitte's 2010 Asia Pacific Technology Fast 500 list has been released, and SilverStripe Ltd is ranked 261 out of technology companies in the region. Find out more in our blog post about the Fast 500.
We've released new versions of SilverStripe CMS. The updates solve bugs, and while they don't relate to a security vulnerability, we do suggest you update. Read more about 2.4.5 and 2.3.11.
SilverStripe Ltd built the online enrolment system for the New Zealand Open Polytechnic, a distance-learning centre for around 25,000 students, and the site went live in December. We mention it now because it's yet another example of SilverStripe being the CMS of choice of many large organisations and mission critical websites.
We're looking to add to our development team a fantastic full-time senior developer here in Wellington. For more information, check out our careers page.
That's all from us now, but remember there are a variety of ways for you to get in touch about anything, and we're always pleased to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Sigurd Magnusson,
SilverStripe
Come to the Wellington Meetup and learn about SilverStripe 3.0 What better time than just before the Webstock conference to find out about our plans for the new version of SilverStripe? Come along to our meetup, Wednesday February 16 in Wellington, at 5pm at the Hotel Bristol. Other speakers will include Tim Klein and Cam Findlay, and we're putting on some drinks as well. More details will be available soon, but add it to your diaries now, and keep track of updates on the Meetup Event.
If you can't make it along, don't worry - we'll be putting more information on 3.0 online after the meetup.
We've moved the majority of the documentation to being stored as text files in the same version control repository as the SilverStripe CMS software itself. Overall, you shouldn't find that content has changed drastically, just that it's presented better. This new format means that we can keep all content up to date. There are also a number of ways in which you can assist us with documentation, detailed here.
Linux Conference Australia Even the Brisbane floods can't silence open source advocates. LCA2011 is happening right now, and SilverStripe is representing. Find out more about the conference, and about the volunteer work being done to clean up Brisbane, in our blog post.
That's it for this month, but we're looking forward to seeing you at our meetup.
Kind regards,
Sigurd
