Western Bay of Plenty District extends from Waihi Beach to Otamarakau, includes Katikati and Te Puke, and surrounds Tauranga City. The WBOP District Council recently declined an application for a licensed amateur to erect a modest HF Yagi on his dwelling at Waihi Beach, and billed him a sum around $18,000 for their consideration. You might regard this Council and its planners as being hostile to amateur radio.
The Council has proposed a district plan change, which will further erode the rights of amateur radio operators in the district.
It is important that amateurs from throughout New Zealand respond to the Council’s proposals by making a submission in opposition.
