Whangarei Branch 28 Equipment Sale and entertainment
Debby Says… Another successful conference has come and gone and a very special thanks goes to the Nelson organising committee and Branch for their tremendous efforts for not only ensuring there was something appealing for everyone to enjoy, but also turning on the most beautiful weather we have enjoyed over a Queens Birthday weekend for a number of years.
Many of you will have heard on the broadcast from conference that Council had agreed to run a membership promotion from the end of June. Council has now reconsidered this date as new information was recently learned from our Administration Liaison Officer and RSM regarding the removal of silent keys. It appears that RSM have a large number of death certificates and address amendments they have yet to process so their database will be accurate.
A membership drive is quite costly so Council do want to make sure that we reach as many non-members as possible and do not upset anyone whose partner or spouse may have become a silent key. The membership drive will now be posted out during September. More details of this will be advised shortly.
Talk soon…ZL2DL

NZART 5 MHz Working Party
As members may be aware, it was agreed at WRC 2012 that the next WRC will consider a possible new allocation to the amateur service on a secondary basis within the band 5 250-5 450 kHz and invited the ITU-R:
1 to study spectrum requirements for a secondary allocation to the amateur service within the band 5 250-5 450 kHz;
2 to carry out sharing studies on the impact to other services currently allocated in the band referred to in invites ITU-R 1 and in the adjacent bands;
3 to complete studies in time for WRC-15.
The ALO, Don Wallace (ZL2TLL) would like to put together an NZART working party to look at what we can do in New Zealand to gather evidence to support an international allocation in the 5 MHz area.
If you would like to assist with this, please contact the ALO at nzart@wallace.gen.nz.
