HQ Info-line Editor
Debby Says…
HQ Info-line has had to urgently find a new temporary editor. Jamie would be the first to make sure ‘the show must go on’, therefore I have undertaken the role of editor of HQ Info-line in the interim, until a more suitable replacement can be found.
For those who regularly contribute articles to HQ Info-line, I would appreciate if you could forward them to me nzart.hq@clear.net.nz, by Friday morning, prior to publication on the assigned fortnightly dates. The dates currently on the web will not change.
I need to be able to collate all articles and forward to Alan Wallace ZL1AMW, who has stepped in to ensure the distribution of this publication is maintained. Alan is also looking after the NZART web site, so if you have any queries or concerns in this regard, please contact Alan on webmaster@nzart.org.nz
SMART
Wednesday 22nd June saw the release by Radio Spectrum Management of the E X & Y call signs. What this means is that these call signs can now be allocated to an individual or Club, on application to me, or any other approved Radio Examiner. A list of these people can be found on either the NZART or RSM web sites.
Interestingly, while much has been publicised about the release date of these call signs, very few appear to have been applied for.
There is no change to the One letter call signs. They can still only be allocated for a 12 month period, unless evidence of continued use with contesting or field days can be supplied prior to the expiry date, then reallocation of the call can be made. Otherwise there is a 6 month stand down for the holder and they may not reapply for the same call during this time.
From the desk at HQ…talk soon Debby ZL2DL
Ham radio on the International Space Station – Robert Duncan:
A subject I follow closely is NASA's space shuttle programme and ham radio on the international space station ARISS. A story I felt would be of some interest to radio hams in Australia and NZ. July 8th is the scheduled final space shuttle launch and NASA engineers have( for the first time) installed a camera on the external fuel tank which will transmit live pictures of its destructive burn up on re-entry. The live FM transmitted signal will be on 2272.5mhz at 10 watts and will burn up over the Pacifc Ocean over the East Coast of New Zealand. Entry interface (EI) will begin at 400.000ft over Southern Australia and can be seen with the naked eye. So those in amateur television in the south pacific area may see some great video. More on this story can be found on this link.
