CONTESTS-16-17-JAN-2010

A happy New Year to all and trust that the recent Festive Season was enjoyed
by both you and all your family. Hopefully that chubby bearded fellow clothe
in red and White slipped down the chimney and was most generous to all. I
understand band conditions have been "up and down" of late, but the lower
frequencies showing the better performance. Fingers crossed for the upcoming
ARRL Contests that 15 and 10 metres will repeat the conditions experienced
in late November/early December. Listed below are activities of interest to
most, including the forthcoming events.

JOCK WHITE MEMORIAL FIELD DAY CONTEST -
COMMENT FROM STUART WATCHMAN, ZL2TW -
JWMFD CONTEST MGR.

2010 Jock White Field Day February 27 and 28

Has your branch fielded a station in this event recently? This is an event
which can be as serious or as social as you like. It is an ideal activity to
bring people in your branch/club together. Many branches combine the event
with a late summer BBQ.

Operating begins at 1500 local on the Saturday, runs through to 2400, and
restarts at 0600 on the Sunday finishing at 1500, on 80 and 40 metres. There
are many sections to choose from (although only one can be entered by each
station).

Please consult the rules, the latest version are always the one on the NZART
web site: http://www.nzart.org.nz/contests/rules.html

A new single Station 80 and 40 metres section is being trialed for 2010. Its
purpose is to encourage more operation on 40 by attracting those field
stations that would normally operate in the 80 metres only section. This
will suit branches that struggle with operator numbers to run two
simultaneous stations.

Operation in this section will alternate between 80 and 40 within each hour
period. It is suggested that the first 15 to 20 minutes of each period is on
80 phone, then change to 40 phone. The same is suggested for the second half
hour of each period for CW.

Please direct any queries or comments to me at clareandstuart@xtra.co.nz

I am only too happy to answer any questions and sort out any confusion prior
to the event. Please send logs to 33 Brooklyn Drive, Blenheim.
