CONTESTS THIS WEEKEND - 14 & 15 NOVEMBER 2009
Again this week's contesting selection cater for all tastes, RTTY (WAE DX
Contest), SSB (JIDX Phone Contest) and CW (OK/OM (Chezc and Slovak Republics' CW
Contest) are scheduled. With the onset of the European winter the incidence of
EU promoted contests will increase, so there will be an upswing in opportunities
for participating in the modes of one's choice.
Here in Tauranga the local Council has sprung a surprise with proposed changes
to it's District Plan. Provision for maximum antennae height has been reduced to
6 metres with guy wires to be no closer than 6 metres from the common boundary
of the adjoining property. Mike Newman, ZL1BNB, NZART Local Government Office
has been most helpful in providing background material relating to the
successful appeals that have been made in other jurisdictions attempts to
restrict the erection of radio antenna support masts. I only wish that the
Government had moved faster in the promised review of the Resource Management
Act and implementation of a substantial removal of the impositions on property
owner's rights in respect of their own property and to have the ability to
mutually work together with neighbours in agreeing to the style, height, etc.in
erecting radio masts for hobby use.

That's it for this week. Good luck to those having a go in any of the above
contests and trust that there is some upward movement in band conditions. Maybe
the upsurge in conditions of a few weeks back was a temporary phenomena - I hope
not. Meantime for me I am back to printing off the large amount of material that
Mike Newman, ZL1BNB, has forwarded - taking this to Te Puke Branch meeting
tomorrow where the topic of the proposed Tauranga District Plan changes are to
be discussed.
Until next week :-
