Wairarapa Home Schoolers Talk to International Space Station-ARISS

This Wednesday, 11 school children from the Wairarapa Home Schooling Association will ask questions of an astronaut on the International Space Station via Amateur Radio, in what will be New Zealand's second organised contact, though it is number 387 for the ISS. It also appears to be the 1st time a group of home-schoolers have contacted the ISS. Typically, the time allowed for questions is about 10 minutes, and in this time, up to 15 questions can be asked and replies given. The questions are of general interest......

Canadian Amateurs Receive Limited 500 kHz Privileges

On November 10, Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) announced that Industry Canada, which regulates Amateur Radio in that country, has accepted an RAC proposal for selected Canadian radio amateurs to operate in the vicinity of 500 kHz.....

ARISS Success in New Zealand
(Update 21-November-2008)

The St Teresas contact was 100% successfull, all 21 children asked their questions, and Mike Fincke replied with answers in the 10 minute communications widow.

It's all go for ARISS

From Peter Norden ZL2SJ: "For St Teresas in Featherston it's now 100% sure of taking place on Thursday 20-November-2008 at 5.30 pm NZDST.

The Wairarapa Home Schooling Association in Carterton will have a contact with the ISS on Wednesday 26th November at 3.30 pm NZDST where 15 pupils will ask astronaut Mike Finke 15 questions in the approximate 10 Minute communications window.

The audio will be on the IRLP 'Discovery' reflector node 9010."

Peter has also report that: "I have got TVNZ interested and they promise to send a camera and a reporter."

ARISS Comes to New Zealand

The number of School contacts with the ARISS reached 385 over last weekend with a successful contact with Newcomers Club in Saitama, Japan direct via JK1ZAM.

The next ARISS contact scheduled is number 386 with St Teresas School in Featherston on Thursday 20-November-2008 at 5.30 pm NZDST. NASA has given this a 90% chance of taking place at this date and time. The Contact will be with Mike Finke KE5AIT. Twentyone pupils will ask 21 questions of Mike in the 10+ minutes contact window.
