-November23-2006 Radio, Radio Waves And SchoolsRADIO, RADIO WAVES and SCHOOLS Project (23 November 2006) The RADIO, RADIO WAVES and SCHOOLS project: You are asked to assist to encourage interest in radio among youngsters and in “science” and “technology” subjects in schools, demonstrations have been devised for the practical “hands–on” exploration of radio waves. Teaching booklets are available for anyone to download to use to promote and to encourage interest in radio. Download and print the Pamphlet, double–sided. It is to lead science teachers to useful radio–related activity in schools. Please distribute this Pamphlet to make the staff of your local schools aware of this resource and please “pass the word on” to all your Branch members for passing–on too. A donation of this demonstration equipment was received with enthusiasm by the science teachers of one school who were fascinated by what was possible. They had not seen this before! Consider supporting your local school to take an interest in radio and to explore the many ways in which radio is used today. back to top
13-November-2006 2006 Doug Gorman Memorial Frequency Measuring Contest ResultsUpdated 28 November 2006: Errors in the results have been corrected, and a new file uploaded. This year, some stations reported propagation difficulties, but fortunately, most competitors had reasonable copy. It is pleasing to see so many of the regulars turn up, and to see the level of expertise displayed by contestants. Congratulation to ZL2AVP, ZL4OL, and ZL1BPU in the Norm Edwards Shield Competition. Congratulation to ZL2AZ and ZL2AUA in the John McKim Cup. The Branch Award this year was again closely contested by Branch 65 and Branch 42, but it looks like Branch 65 Papakura has once again scooped the pool. AREC National Director Jeff Sayer ZL4JS comments on the ZK Callsign issue: “Over recent weeks, there has been debate in Amateur radio Forums regarding the use of ZK prefix for AREC Operations. Representatives of NZART Council and the AREC Management Committee met in Wellington on Sunday 12th November to discuss any implications associated with the ZK usage. All issues raised were satisfactorily resolved. 25-November-2006 Lists Draft Rules And Guidelines ReleasedNZART's Webmaster Mark Gooding ZL2UFI has released today the draft rules and guidelines for use on the various NZART Lists or Email Reflectors. Many amateurs will have various opinions for and against these rules. All comments about the rules should only be placed in the Amateurradio List. If you are not subscribed to this list, or any of the other lists sponsored and hosted by NZART, use the link on the left navigation bar under the title NZART Services – Mailing Lists. Follow the instructions to subscribe. A period of three weeks from the 25 October 2006 will be used to comment on the NZART – List (or Email Reflector) Guidelines, with all submissions closing on 15 November 2006. If you don't wish to have your comments made public, please direct them via email directly to the Webmaster at: . . 13-November-2006 Amateur Radio Repeaters-Licence FeesNZART President Bruce Douglas ZL2WP, states: “As NZART members are aware certain approaches have been made to Members of Parliament on this topic. Attached for general information are the two principal papers which accompanied the approach by the President and the Administration Liaison Officer initially made to the Hon Peter Dunne MP. The President and the Administration Liaison Officer received a sympathetic hearing to their approach and record their appreciation of the efforts to which the Minister subsequently went to in support of NZART.” This material may assist others in independent approaches, says Bruce.
